Rock & Roll Rewind

Posted on July 17, 2014

It’s no secret that Dubuque and the surrounding area has a rich and vibrant live music scene. Pick up any issue of 365ink and look at the live music listings for any given weekend. Not only will there be multiple choices on Friday and Saturday nights (not to mention week nights) but even on Sundays, a music lover might have a dozen or more opportunities to find live music around the Tri-States. (We actually counted 20 live music events on a recent summer Sunday!)

While part of this phenomenon is no doubt a result of the area’s general vibrancy and economic health, the richness of the current Dubuque music scene can be traced back decades to the 1960s, ‘70s, and ‘80s, when high school garage bands rocked teen dances and gymnasiums and rock, blues, and country bands entertained in all sorts of bars, taverns, and clubs. Whatever happened to those bands?

Dubuque Gran Fondo

Posted on July 07, 2014

Greg LeMond will be the guest of honor at the inaugural Dubuque Gran Fondo, a combination ride and race that begins and ends at the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium. The ride, which is described by organizers as the equivalent of a "cycling marathon"—some riders will race to win, others will ride to enjoy an unforgettable day on a challenging course that includes many signature Dubuque bluff hills and sections of gravel roads in Dubuque County.

Summer Theatre

One only has to look at the cover of this issue of 365ink (or flip through the rest of the issue for that matter) to realize that Dubuque has a robust arts and cultural landscape. Check out the offerings for more great summer theatre offerings! But sometimes there is so much going on that we don’t always keep up with all the possibilities.
