Cable Car Square
Always held the first Saturday of October, which happens to be October 4 this year, The Tri-States’ Largest Chili Cook-Off transforms historic Cable Car Square on Dubuque’s Bluff Street into an aromatic chili tasting and competition. With live music and beer (two great accompaniments to a hot bowl of chili) Cook-Off also features a variety of kids games, food and entertainment at this family-friendly event. This is the 22nd year for the annual event.

Alliant Amphitheater, Port of Dubuque
While the Dubuque of today continues to become a more ethnically diverse community, it’s sometimes noted that those who settled the early community were mostly German and Irish. Since the Irish had their Hooley a few weeks back it’s only fair that the Germans have an opportunity to celebrate their heritage. That chance comes Saturday, September 27 as Dubuque’s Oktoberfest returns to the Alliant Amphiteater from noon to 8 p.m. A fundraiser for Camp Albrecht Acres, Oktoberfest will feature German food, a beer tasting, ethnic dancers, traditional games and live music of the German variety. German, Irish, or otherwise, all are invited to join the festivities. This is the sixth year for the event.
